Hey everyone!

March is well on it's way... We hoped to be a little further along with the LP by now but the test pressings have just arrived. That's OK though, as we are still smoothing out some details with the artwork. We are sure that you will all find it well worth the wait. The test pressings, by the way, are sounding great!! I have to say, these jams have taken to vinyl rather well. The record was mastered directly from the actual master cassette tape and the record really retained a first generation sound. Kind of a trip hearing such obvious taped sounds warbling off of crispy vinyl! Though still cruddy and fuzzy as all hell, the recordings have been dusted off a bit for the LP and are beautifully analog through and through. No digital anything! I have the feeling we are going to find ourselves saying "Yes. It's supposed to sound that way." a lot. But that's a good thing!

Aside from the new SFB LP April will bring new cassette releases by Prince Rama, Crystal Dragon and Rain Drinkers and hopefully a few other surprises.

The Prince Rama cassette is two different live shows, both recorded in Madison WI. The first side is a show from 10/2/09. An insanely cool show with some songs you may have heard before but twisted live to cassette. Of course. The B-side is show recorded on 6/13/09 with some special guests and plenty of audience participation which definitely shines through. As you may know, PR have the tendency to pass out small instruments to the audience sometimes and encourage this sort of thing.

The Crystal Dragon cassette looks to be EPIC! This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who picked up ‘The Crystal Demos’ cdr earlier.

The Rain Drinkers will not disappoint with their beautifully refreshing cassette ‘The Healing Begins NOW’. Absorb it.

More later! ^T^

Hello All!

New freak outs from the Second Family Band and The BiG Drum in the Sky Religion, intimate lo-fi pop from mysterious Guzzo Pinc and two cassette reissues from Tricorn & Queue and Annapurna Illusion. Read on!

NEWEST EARJERK RELEASES>>>>

The Big Drum in the Sky Religion - 'Sha^ri Va'ri' - cassette

The Big Drum in the Sky Religion has to be commended for their tireless and loyal commitment to ruling the MySpaceverse. Outside of their physical address it seems the only way to contact these guys. Just try and get those guys to email you. I gotta admit, my aversion to all thing MP3 just makes it impossible to get a handle on what anybody's music sounds like in reality. I admit, I kept stumbling across these dudes' music and I think I even checked out their flippin' myspce but the music never sounded anything like the cd-r they sent me. But that's just me and screens. Mighta' been the same music but it didn't sound anything like it did when it peeled out of my stereo speakers on a chill morning after my wake and bacon. It just finally hit me. Like a lightning bolt. So, yeah... New on Earjerk is a cassette version of a cd-r that T.B.D.I.T.S.R. self released. It's titled 'Sha^ri Va'ri' and has been remastered for cassette. Woven together to form this short 69 minute foray into their world, several primal live events are blended seamlessly. Humans scream. Ancestors laugh. And they all dance and sing too the steadily unsteady drum. Infinite and eternal jams pound on through an air thick with sweat and electric hum. A fresh of breath air. To find even more simply fucked cd-rs, (as well as the cd-r version of 'Sha^ri Va'ri' with some extra music) check out their myspce your damn self. If you dare. Expect some exclusive T.B.D.I.T.S.R. tracks on the earjek label soon. http://www.myspace.com/bigdrumskyreligion

Guzzo Pinc - 'The Sea' - cassette

Another reissue of sorts. I've known Guzzo for a good long while but I have never been able to fully understand this guy. An amazing, humble artists and a magical one as well. The first day I met Guzzo I was at a local coffee shop. We got to talking about music, sound and free-form improvisation. I had just a few days before picked up a very old, strange book called 'Forms of Sound' by John Tyndall. I was quite intrigued with it. In the book which was published in 1896, Tyndall goes about trying to "render the science of acoustics interesting to all intelligent persons" explaining in many phenomena in minute detail, through different experiments. For example he explains that "When a gas flame is placed in a tube, the air in passing over the flame is thrown into vibration, musical sounds being the consequence... How an arc of streaming water sounds when it travels 3 feet as opposed to the sound it makes when traveling 5 feet. Extremely detailed for it's time, with many hand drawn diagrams. Again, this is my first time meeting Guzzo. I had only recently found this book. And at the end of the relatively brief conversation as I was getting ready to leave, Guzzo says, as if automatically, "I have this book I found and something tells me you should have it." To my total astonishment he hands me an almost identical book to the one I had just found. Published a year later. 'Forms of Sound' by the same author, John Tyndall! This one speaks exclusively of water and the many different forms water can take; ripples caused by wind, ripples caused by sound etc.. These are old, rare books. Not just lying around, readily available. Anyway, this same sort of magic permeates this new oddity in the earjerk catalog. I say oddity because it contains... brace yourself... real songs! Yes. These are amazingly catchy and engaging tunes. Tunes that can get caught in my mind but never bother me. I don't know Guzzo's influences but I hear a little Lou Barlow in here and I don't think Guzzo knows who that is. Definitely a place here for the fans of recent neofolkies like Caethua, Uke of Spaces Corners and Woods. (And I can GUARANTEE you that he doesn't know any of those...sorry guys! I still love you!) I also hear shit in here that I just can't place but I feel like I have heard it before. Something very familiar here. Like a lullaby man, like a lullaby. True bedroom pop, intimately recorded in analog warmth and with a sincere delivery. This won't make you cringe! It's that good!

Second Family Band - 'Get Me By' - cassette -

Two more twangers. (that's a hard G in twangers) This short stomp will elasticize yer joints. And do NOT remain seated. You'll need to flip that tape soon. The back porch is still saggin' from it's pounding. Two WTF?, hillbilly, snake handlin, tent revival jams commited to crumbling, recycled cassettes. Comes in an abused case with insert.

Tricorn & Queue - 'Straits of Maize' - cassette (reissue)

Another 45 copies of this field and stream-of-consciousness wonder. The last one sold out in a flash. Different paper insert this time around and these also come in recycled cases, with hand-etched text..
http://housecraftarea.blogspot.com/

Annapurna Illusion - 'Heat of the Fire, Heat of the Sun' - cassette version!

Cassette reissue of these four stark and lovely mountain treks. Beautiful as ever in analog.

More SFB and Earjerk related news>>>

Drunjus has a new cdr out on the generous Striate Cortex label out of the UK called Sleep Trader. It's one tremendous track clocking in at about 65 minutes. Dark and deep. This track is not for conscious listening. Designed specifically with the compact disc medium in mind. Play just before sleep with the repeat function engaged. Starknesses abound on this dedicated little label out of Grimsby and Drunjus seem to be the first American drifters to touch down here. Like many of the releases on Striate Cortex the packaging for this is disc is a high maintenance affair. 5 or 6 pieces all told, with Skeletal leaf, hand stamped and sewn bag and insert. Email us for a copy or check out striate cortex here: http://www.striatecortex.co.uk/

There are new Second Family rumblings issuing forth from every direction. Cassettes and cd-rs on the new Boondock Pissoir label as well forthcoming SFB related releases on the Tree Tapes label. Tree Tapes is run by Dan Woodman of Drunjus and Second Family Band. Boondock Pissoir is the fruit of another member of the Second Family tree; Dave 3000. Please check out all the new BDP release at the bottom of the page. Ye Uphall Knight Fryars, particularly, may be appealing to fans of Second Family Band and indeed, it would seem at least of few of the family are fryars...
Anarchy is an essential element to SFB's perpetually bewildering output. This 'no rules' policy (and the exponentially expanding line-up) is part of what constantly renews SFB and keeps it churning. And as time goes by we can be assured that what exactly is going on here will become even more befuddling. Even the members of the band will find it difficult to keep up with what jams have been released and by whom. And this was the intention. It is truly a free for all when it comes to this band.

We have copies of all of these items in stock now! Email us at earjerk at yahoo dot com, to confirm your order or contact the labels directly.

New SFB joints on Boondock Pissoir:

Second Family Band - 'Naked Ladies & Dragons' - cassette - Limited edition c60 cassette release from BDP. A floater for sure. Good healthy spaced out movements from the band.
From the label: Follow Second Family, with Gary Gygax as guide, through this hour long, ambient-prog synth fantasia. On the A side Naked Ladies shimmer in the moonlight; flip it over and Dragons circle overhead.

Second Family Band - 'Jerusalem' - cassette - Spiritual mumble gumbo rolls through side A and the flipside contains too-short rides of different kinds.
From the label: Is there a more mystical and perilous city in the world than Jerusalem? Old Testament dread haunts the first side as the Family sings of Glory while Pan plays his flute and dances impishly outside their circle. Side two commences with the sand blown sounds of the Ancient City, before Night Journey finds the band escaping heavenward through darkening skies.

Second Family Band - Nandi - cdr only - Officially available at long last! You thought it was a one-off but seems to be the first of many. From the label: Mysteriously added to the SFB discography in early 2009, this session is finally officially available to the public. The two-part title track Egesta of Nandi encapsulates the entire history of raga-rock in one gigantic headsploitation pisstake. Mystery Mojo Rising uses an electric organ to summon the ghosts, while Cramped is the Family’s first rockabilly freakout!

COMING SOON! In collaboration with Tree Tapes and Boondock Pissoir,

EARJERK RECORDS PRESENTS:

THE SECOND FAMILY BAND - DREAM RELEASE LP!
Second Family Bands 'Dream Release' cassette on Bumtapes has been completely remastered for vinyl and is ready to press! I am not sure how many of you have heard the freaky, hazy, mish mash of music and jams crammed into 'Dream Release' but we find it strangely mangled to perfection and an undeniably vinyl worthy effort. Dream on...

Possible futures:

Sheep Fiends -

I have been seeking out groups of people that seem to share The Second Family Bands genuine fuck-all attitude toward creating truly joyful, spontaneous sounds and music. It seems the Sheep Fiends have been gathering eternally, laying down jam after jam.... And it appears they will keep doing so, whether anyone ever hears any of it or not. Not that I am sure they are even together anymore... I was just kind of handed this tape. And it seemed genuine. If you explore, I am told you can find all kinds of jams from this clan online.

Prince Rama of Ayodhya -

Potentially releasing a couple of tape melting live slay rides from these performers! If these beautiful people come through your town, don't miss out!

'Til next time, hold on we're comin!

BDP-1006
MEEN MISTREETER - SIDE 3 (FOR T.K.)

Guess who’s in for it this time on Meen Mistreeter II? Canada’s greatest band is deconstructed in two sidelong suites: Blueberry Ice Horse and Manitoba Mama. This is the “live motion stereo” mix of a piece composed for 6-channel surround sound.

01/05/2010

Hey everyone!

So much goin' on!

Here are the newest releases... contact me directly >> ((earjerk(@)yahoo(.)com)) if these aren't available through our 'catalog' page.

Gitchi-anahmi-bezheu - 'Wonder'

I got to hang out with this cat and do a few live shows with him out on the East Coast, and man... I gotta say, dude delivers! I actually saw Ian perform as Dream Safari but, if anything, this new incarnation just turns everything up a notch... or down...however you wanna look at it! I guess down would be more appropriate. Cause this is deep, deep stuff! Fantastic Underwater Panther Music! The two times I saw Ian play live (and on all the cassette releases I have encountered) there is a definite progression that his pieces live through. This is something that is missing in many (MANY!) drone projects you might encounter, in which most finished pieces sound like they were chopped out of some large sprawling jam. *Snip! Snip! There' s the best chunk.* Not with Gitche. You can tell these pieces were self contained. A definite beginning, middle and end, you know? You can easily imagine these creations as living things as you listen to them originate, grow and die. Fleshy pink tapes. Individually hand-stamped covers on beautiful vintage paper. Limited to 99 copies.

Enfer Boreal / Drunjus - Climate.Change / Ranking.Charioteer

Some of the headiest material ever from both of these projects. Enfer Boreal starts from a deep bell toned pulse and as soon as you have locked on he tosses you into space. You bounce off various soft, rubbery astroids and UFO's.  You will have to re-enter the Earths atmosphere without burning up and these cold drones won't leave you hangin. Drunjus... Awww, you know what to expect. Anyway,  how many times can I use the words heavy and deep and cosmic when describing drones. I mean this is heavy, deep, cosmic and  COSMIC, but I have used all those descriptions before.Throbbing? Pulsing? Alive? Yes. All that. A definite buzz enhancer. Blue tapes with carefully applied green spray. Killer wrap-around collage artwork by Woodman. Limited to 45 copies.

NEW DARK AGE KASSETTES:

Lens - Chant Up Babylon

Dark Age Kassettes No. 4!!! Two medieval devotionals from the solo project of Drunjus's Dan Woodman. Lens throws an enigma in the dungeon to wait out the dark age. First 27 copies come with an actual lens. Purple Tapes. Limited to 45 copies.

Second Family Band - The Eternal Lag Pt.3
The Quest continues! If 'Our Way Is The Right Way' is the prequal. And Eternal Lag Pt.2 is 'The Two Towers'. Then this is 'The Return of the King'. Killer, blown-out, science fantasy, noise epic. Trbal drums, buried synth etc... Standard Dark Age Kassettes packaging. Purple Tapes. Limited to 45 copies.

NEW TREE TAPES:

Second Family Band - Street Weaver

A strange c47 making the rounds called Streetweaver. Side A is a weirdo dime and dollar synth wheeze called Dirty Dimensions and the flip is the title track, an acoustic porch stomp with a touch of twang.

Neon Shit - Neon Shit

Continuing where the first sensory defying Neon Shit Tape left off. Phasing vortex! 8-bit shit storm! Mind Erase! Scientology Weapon! Get this now!

...!!!new OBJECT TAPES releases!!!:...

Pan to Scratch - 6/8/4 6/8/8 - Object Tapes - (OBC-041) - This is a reissue of the Skulls of Heaven cassette release 'Venus Crossing the Sun' with an additional A-side. The first side, let's call it 'Murder' is a previously unreleased track and was recorded between 5am and 5:30am on 6/8/04. A stroll turns deadly when the recorder crosses paths with a violent, dive-bombing murder of crows. The flip, 'Venus Crossing the Sun' (originally released as a one-sided cassette on the the Skulls of Heaven label) was recorded 4 years later to the day on 6/8/06. Quiet solo spaces and activated chain-link fence, captured in a deserted environment,  while Venus floated between Earth and the Sun. Hand etched recycled case with grid insert.

Pan to Scratch - Pagan Blood - Object Tapes - (OBC-042) - Two live shows. Using thrift-score cassette decks, vintage analog synths (also from the thrift) and Bouzoki (on loan from Mumber Toes), Pan to Scratch succeeds in creating live, the kind of forgotten-time vibes that the Pan to Scratch field-collage tapes can evoke in the tape deck. Low tones, treated field recordings, unmanned machines, sad strings... it's all here to be sure, but this is a whole other monster in a live setting. Instruments are treated like any other object that might be stumbled upon on any abandoned plot. Side A was recorded in Madison, WI sometime in Nov. 09 and Side B is a live set from this summer in New Bruswick, NJ. (the same set (but not the same audio) as the live set which can be viewed here>>  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r8G8b2sbl8 ). Hand etched case with painted paper insert. Limited.

Circulation of Light - Circulation of Light

Magic material here. Gnostic Audio. A stillness pervades. Liquid piano. Transcendental Medication. Solo Project of Nathaniel Ritter of Kinither.

Dreamcolour - Solar Gaze
Heady skronk. Saxophone drone. It sounds like dinosaur jazz. As in Jazz for dinosaurs. I don't know where this was recorded or when but it seems like whenever this tribe gathers ecstatic jams erupt. But they can lull you too. Just give them a chance and they'll definitely let you float awhile.

AND EARJERK RELATED THINGS ON THESE OTHER LABELS TOO:

:::::KINDER27::::
DRUNJUS-"travel by night and rest in black shade through the day"
in sea-tone ship bag

HEY! Sounds from the dusty cupboard. It's been so long we don't remember what this sounds like, but I am sure it's as dreamy as the packaging! Get yours HERE>>> http://www.myspace.com/kindertapes !!

Well! I had no idea! Fairchild tapes #18 - Live at Turnup Records (Turnup Vol. 4) is out. And what a line up! This C60 features: Field of Hats, Relentless Corpse, Sam Goldberg, Xiphiidae, and Pan to Scratch. I am pretty sure the Xiphiidae and Pan to Scratch tracks are from when Jeffry and I flew through Ohio with The Second Family Band and Sky Limousine this summer. If you can't scope out the cassette, check out a different recording of that very same live performance on this very MySpace Profile.

Hey Hey...  Pan to Scratch Live in Joisy. SFB played right after this...hope someone filmed that as well... there is an SFB show from Chicago @ acidmarshmallow.com

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r8G8b2sbl8

A fun live set from show with Sky Limousine, Xiphiidae, Dream Safari, Hollowman and Second Family Band. Everyone was so attentive!

SECOND FAMILY BAND – Dream Release C33

Another incredible offering from the SFB camp, documenting their huge collective burnouts. side A begins with a Murky laidback basement jam which quickly morphs into a psychedelic banjo romp, and ends with the incredible tropical sounding shamanic title track.....

The flip sides drugged up guitar solo and loose percussion keeps the pace for another of the band’s sonic meditations, which all accumulates into the last track’s laid back Dub Vibes, perfectly suited for heaviest smokers soundtrack.....

limited to 40 copies

AND these goodies out on the Skulls of Heaven label:

Second Family Band - 'Vernal Mystery Hour' C60 $7
"It only takes one minute to pull a tooth, but it took the Second Family hours to celebrate the return of the sun. This tape offers one hour of highlights from our Vernal Equinox proceedings. The finest in American technicolor fantasia."

Second Family Band - 'Wisconsin Gospel Vol 5' CDr $8
"A healthy serving of our Solstice 2008 gathering. A continuous decadent spiral of trance and burn. Large group mind confusion manifesting in stuttering prog movements and heathen space ritual, all covered in the wild pulpit-burning incantations and instrument molesting of Fr. Karen Eliot."

Second Family Band - 'Incidental Music from "Run Up the Voodoo"' 3" CDr $6
"Sickening segments of audio used during bleary-eyed late night fright fest. 20+ minutes of dense, vertigo-inducing, candlelit psychedelia derived from desperate prayers to keep the house ghosts happy"

4.29.09

Hi!

The month of April had us scrambling to keep up with orders. Thanks to you all for your support and patience. So much to do for such a little label!

We were also late in releasing some fabulous freakiness which we have been wanting to drop. It's all ready now though, so... read on!

New on Earjerk:

Anvil Dome -  Within Huron - c22 - OBC-039
The latest from Object Tapes. Two spacers...  nice, thick, fuzzy, zone outs from this contender. We actually try to avoid releasing drone-based material around here. Since everyone's "doin it doin it doin it". But let's be up front. There is nothing average about this deep lake drone. Bright orange cassettes with etched plastic case. 45 copies ($6.00)

E.C. Brown and I'Diamond - Gothick Reforme - EJK-021

Everything just keeps getting darker and darker... It must be time for this lost treasure to be unearthed. In 2001 someone gave me a cd-r. They said they knew I liked "strange music" and they thought I should have this. The cover art was a robed figure with a golden mask and the back had a similar figure (perhaps female) posing with similar robes and a different mask. Both figures were set against a background of neon pink and yellow forest leaves.  Somehow, despite the colors, there was something definitely ominous about the artwork for this cdr.  And the same can be said of the sounds within. Truly ahead of it's time, I had no frame of reference for this at the time. I kept the cdr mostly to mysel; a secret revealed only to  some. Very few were ready to except it's slimy, sometimes oppresive atmospheres, it's jarring filmscore "scene changes", and it's mixture of pre-Free(k) Folk, Noise and even Black Metal tendencies. Earjerk has tracked down Mr. Brown and has re-issued this wonder on puke-pink or yellow cassettes with the original artwork formated for cassette, for all the world to hear no longer lingering in dark corners of cardboard boxes and basement floors,  subject to cd rot and digital decay. Buy this. Be the first to say you weren't there. 99 copies. ($6.00)

Varlet Tarsod - s/t - c44 - EJK-016
Killer Prog voyages from this strange Wisconsin mind. Push play and you' re locked in to this swirling world of rythyms, heavy riffing and shifting shred. Definite dark desert vibes.  45 copies ($6.00)

Crystal Dragon - The Crystal Demos - cd-r - EJK-020
Ever since his initial appearance on the earjerk labels 'Bright and Dark Light' compilation Crystal Dragon Fever has been spreading. Who is this mysterious analog synth warrior/fighter pilot from the Land of Light? For this release he is your guide. Ride along on amazing journeys through quartz caverns with Erik Satie and Klaus Schulze at the helm. hSo fucking essential! The Crystal demos have been making the rounds and it is clear! There will be some fully realized albums solidifying soon. But these gems can't stay buried forever. Dig these demos! Medieval Musique Kosmiche. 45 copies ($6.00)

Second Family Band - East to West - c80 - EJK-023
Pack some granola. Two long hikes through the haze grace this 80 minute cassette. 'Morning in the East' blazes trails." I'm taking my banjo along through the Himalayas and if you wanna drag that ARP along that'd be cool with me." The flip has a real dirty metropolis groove. Traveling. Lets crescendo awhile.  Way out west now...How long we been drivin? ...Any Natives still live around here? 99 copies ($6.00)

Second Family Band - Weird Sword / Seers Word - c32 - EJK-024
Truly the darkest SFB excursion to date. Channeling some kinda queer science-fantasy/4AD vibe, The Second Family make up a strange bed o 'spheres... Gradually the Peter Murphy vox get laid down, courtesy Max Elliott. Karen Eliot lends a healing chant and some wicked guttar...also crawling around in the dark: Iam Lee Ian, Dave 3000, Ivan Mairesse, Endless and Woodman.45 copies. ($6.00)

Second Family Band - Whose Wave We Ride - c60 - EJK-025
Had to happen... Let's take things to the Eye-Lands! Tropical breeze bass lines and a sunset vibe definitely rule this release. We know! We know! It's all the rage right. Well... we did what we did and now we gotta let you have it. Would it help if we let you know it just kinda happened? I mean, you can't plan these kinda jams right? Hey! I said Pina Colada not Ayuasca! Come aboard... we're expecting you... 99 copies ($6.00)

Second Family Band - The Eternal Lag Pt.2 - c30 - DAK-002
Murky. The newest Dark Age Kassette release! The latest addition in the Dark Age subscription series... (Also available through Tomentosa and Eclipse) 66 copies ($6.00)

Hey!
Local guru/hero/elder db pedersen got a well deserved mention in local AV section of that rag, The Onion, a while back. It was in the Decider column, which deserves props itself, for going out of the way to shed some light on some of the local artists around here who may prefer the darkness. Thanks Scott and Joel! Speaking of the darkness the 'Infernal Noise' cassette on earjerk get's a mention in the same article. Here it be:

Madison's db Pedersen is a vortex of eccentric creativity, liable to blurt out all manner of eerily accurate animal sounds and vocal drones (inspired by Tuvan throat-singing) even when he's not in front of a crowd or a mic. Pedersen uses his peculiar skill set in a variety of settings, sometimes looping basslines or flutes under his vocals, sometimes collaborating with other local musicians; his 2008 cassette release, Infernal Noise, captured a couple of free-flowing, improvisational live performances. So what's Pedersen doing on a bill with local scuzz-rockers Merrick and Illinois metal band Skinsick? All three are included on a new 12-inch vinyl compilation from Portland's Bright As Night Records, run by Jason Hartman of the formerly Madison-based band Vanishing Kids.

  - v/a - 'BRIGHT AND DARK LIGHT' 4 cassette compilation (EJK-016) (4xc20+ in box) Sidelong pieces by 8 artists. Burial Hex, Sorc'henn, Drunjus, Crystal Dragon, Teeth collection, Black Sparrow, Pan to Scratch, Taikuri Tali. Each artist was asked to contribute a side long piece representing light or darkness. I gotta say, this one is heavy on the darkside... Sorc'henn – A Dozen Moons against the Sun - This is a soundtrack to a haunting. A wandering ghost floating through streets of drizzling rain. The groans of the not quite dead. A distant rumble of thunder is heard through a haze of lamentation. Regret, misery, and abandonment.. Teeth Collection - untitled - A metallic (in the literal sense) symphony starts out this piece. Activated and bowed metal sounds build to a frenzy as a bed of noise creeeeps in behind and gradually envelops the metal sounds creating a cold fog of swirling texture that is truly entrancing. Drunjus - Silo (version) - A deep gutteral drone created in a silo (designed by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright) and pitched down. Waaaay down. While we weren't looking Pat Best of Pelt sneeked in and contributed gong flourishes. That didn't make it in the liner notes, but it's true! Thanks Patrick! Crystal Dragon - Sirens of Hyperspace - A total space odyssey! This is some dreamy analog synth action from the Dragon. Someone needed to shed a little light, so the Dragon steps up. Amethyst mountains rising from a pink bubbling haze of 50's science fiction soundtrack sounds. Black Sparrow - untitled - A bit lighter now. Black Sparrow takes us on a flight above the clouds. As our shadow passes the moon we can hear below us a howling wolf chorus of analog synth. Burial Hex - untitled - A dark journey through scraping cemetery gates with rolling sarcophagi stones and bones Pan to Scratch - August 2008 V - Pan to Scratch presents us with another organic cassette composition. A true 'Sound Sculpture', this piece is a layering of tones upon tones. The original tone being inspired by a captured environmental ambiance and then enhanced with several moog drones. Once the initial drones were laid out, (layered over) a loose pattern began to emerge. This pattern was then used as a skeleton to build the piece, each successive layer adding to and changing the course of the pattern. This was repeated until the piece was 'finished', the tones gradually fading out and leaving only the original ambiance. Taikuri Tali - untitled - Spectacular contribution from these Finnish freakers! Taikuri Tali (here composed of Antti Tolvi, Peko Kappi and Niko-matti Ahti) contribute a piece so out there that I have No idea whats happening on this recording. What I Imagine: A weird squeak-toy, spring peeper drone with AM frequency fiddle and electronic bull roarer/Goose duo...then the elf dervishes start in and it just gets weirder from there...". $18.00

Absinthe Minds - "Rising Kulo Summit" b/w "Passage of the Wicked, River of Time" - (EJK-017) - (c23) - Mangled tape. lo-fi, mucked up, too close to the band, deck onthe floor boards, picking up every vibration. every drop of the crowds sweat. this is an indie-reject hell. This is absinthe minds. Nice live recording from the new york tour jams. Looks like the boys took a little bit of the midwest along when they dropped this on NYC. Plains Indian Style. But Plains Indians ancestors back from the dead and pissed style. Upon arrival back in the home territories the Minds souls just kept heading west... God damn if the boys dont lay out a total fucking zombie SURF ROCK tune! Absinthe Minds stylee! For real so but dont be sceered! 45 copies on unholy white and bloody sunset red cassettes. ($6.00)

The Second Family Band - Changing Suns - EJK-018 - (c46) - 5 or 7 tunes out of thin air. Recorded on the shores of windy Lake Mendota. Acoustic strumming, guitar-body drumming, trad sec fam throat singing, courtesy db pedersen and some amazing string action from Jared Annoye. For the most part a daylight affair but the Suns definitely dip behind the cloud more than a few times.  First 25 copies on sunny yellow cassettes. ($6.00)

Spiral Joy Band - Black Earth Hymns - EJK-019 - (c80) - Two seshins live at the WORT, so good! Black Earth b/w Spiral Joy Dogs. Just moments after making Wisconsin ther new home base, this two/thirds of the Spiral Joy Band (Patrick Best and Mikal Dimmik) were channeling thee scony plains vibe guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh! Actually, that's the sound you make after about three minutes into this shimmering miasma. Beautiful cover art by Emily Keown. Limited quantities on day or night sky blue tapes. ($6.00)

Pan to Scratch - The Sourcerer - OBC-037 - (c30) - Daily, solitary, outdoor rituals documented over two months time in the Fall of 2008. Field recordings and multi-layer melodica musings crumble and decay over the 15 meditative minutes comprising side A of the latest Object Tapes release. Side B is a version on this number, with the drifting melodica drone having a bit more presence this time and taking on a pensive contemplative mood, punctuated with bells and minimal instrumentation. As with the release on Cabin Floor Esoterica, this is dedicated to the great Olivier Messiaen. ($6.00)

Tricorn and Queue - Maize Among Whispers - OBC-038 - (c38) - Such an organic feel is captured everytime Jeffry Astin gets his fingers in something. His project with Kane Pour, Tricorn and Queue is no exception. We get the earthy mic in the dirt, but also this time an floating airiness. A whistle of wind repeats and repeats and creates a stream of rippling sound you can really sink into. Recorded Oct '08 at the southwestern corner of the narrowing synagogue of wavering light, vanishing hours on high. ($6.00)

Drunjus / Anvil Dome - Dawn of Dark Age - DAK-001 - (c44) - Kicking off our new subscription series is a killer split cassette with Drunjus and Anvil Dome.  Both contribute their live sets from a January 08 gig in Milwaukee set up by Mike of Black Eagle Child  and Ghost Whale. Field Recordings, weighted bass lines, starry synth washes and positive karma. ($5.00)... or $20.00 for 1 year subscription. (6 tapes)

These and other items at earjerk.com are still available:

The Second Family Band - "The Eternal Lag"- Space. Travel. Time travel. Wanderings through distorted landscapes. Supernova! This cassette can barely contain the music spun on its reels. A cleaner fuzz there never was! The Second Family lays it on THICK with slanted hand drum rhythms and break neck tempo shifts, piano pulse, banjo abuses and epic sci-fi synth.
($6.00)
The Second Family Band  - 'When We Are Gone' - Set sail! This is some solid action from the Family, in full force, honoring their ancestors. A Samhain gathering. Sunset and the music begins....it is morning before long. Freeeeeeeee Jams with db Pedersens vocal contortions and a Spontaneous Sabbath Sermon by Father Karen Eliot. What a trip. SECOND RUN! The first 36 copies were on green tapes with a green case. We said the second batch of tapes were gonna be black but SURPRISE! The second batch are light blue w/ blue case. ($8.00)

Absinthe Minds - "LIVE" Double Live Cassette! This is a couple of ascending epic flights into the twisted world of Madison's Absinthe Minds. Autumnal live sets set within dank Madtown walls. One Live at the Nottingham and the other The Willy Street Pub. On tour with Zola Jesus soon so watch out! Double cassette in case. Absinthe-green and empty bottle-clear cassettes. 36 copies! SOLD OUT

Andy Futreal - "Did you find it?" - cassette - On his first release on Sloow Tapes Andy melted minds with his oud improvisations, tape manipulations and radio freque-ing. This tape is no exception. Cassette walkman, microcassette recorder, laud, pedals and something called a postcard weevil are just some of the objects Andy employed this time around. This cassette reveals another mystery each time you listen. If you've had the pleasure of checking out his first release, the A-side of this one might surprise you; a very heavy, heady lapsteel guitar journey through steep orange and brown canyon walls with blue sky and soaring eagle. You'll want to take this journey again and again to really appreciate everything that is going on. ($5.00)

Ophibre - Approaching the Ionized Piezo Kiosk - cdr -  Drone that decimates! "Stone Gon' Drone".  A constantly phasing, shimmering cloud of color that shifts and morphs, yet maintains a cohesiveness throughout that will continually make you drift and forget you are  listening. The really great stuff you just can't describe. Ophibre already stumped me with his self-released 'Compositions For Disassembled Cassette", which was comprised of all the little things you need to make a cassette. The reels, the screws (in a little ziplock coin baggie taped to the side of the case), the tape, the shell.. If you want to hear it your gonna learn to put together the cassette! I havent remembered to ask him, but I think the sound source for the composition in Ophibre taking apart all the cassettes! Luckily this cdr will come fully assembled, although we could make you design your own case...nah! ($8.00)

Annapurna iIlusion - "Heat of the Fire, Heat of the Sun "- cdr  - Expansive, mountainous waves of drone from this mystery outfit. The Drones create a beautiful backdrop for the intricate organic noises that float on the surface. The debut release of Annapurna iIlusion, presents us with four tracks of woven electric breath, which can either lull you into a dreamstate or pummel your head against the shore, depending upon how loud you play it. Brings to mind those times when The Beastmaster would like, have his bird fly way up in the air and then he could like, see through the birds eyes and stuff..oh man! ..I'll change that tomorrow. Want to write more but need sleep! Just believe me, This Slays!.. More info here: myspace.com/annapurnaillusions  ($8.00)

The Second Family Band - 'Phasis' - cassette - Hot on the heels of the Sloow Tapes Second Family cassette release... another killer collision with Peaking Lights and this time with Relentless Corpse! Record live to stereo cassette at the P.L. compound and a flip side with a traditional solstice jam and a small piece performed for Indra and Aarons (P.L.) wedding... Pro-dubbed, yellow tapes with matching case. (8.00)

Also there are two new Drunjus tapes... 'Kallisti Gold' (5.00) and 'Chainmail Future' (5.00) Only one may have made it into the catalog but you can order both, just add "Kallisti Gold" to your cart twice and add a note mentioning "Chainmail Future" to your paypal order.

So much new stuff goin on...finally updating the website to fill you all in Madison has been bursting with killer action lately. First off late me not delay in letting you know about the new Drunjus LP 'Thorn Shield'. 180 grams of solid, buzzing, blurry, disorienting drone. Hand screened as is becoming tradition here at Earjerk. Co-released with Tree Tapes.

In Addition to the LP and the new cassettes in the catalog, the boys also have a cassette out now on theBumtapes label as wel as forthcoming releases on Housecraft,Kinder Tapes, Pizza Night Tapes and 200mg, so watch for falling drones!

There are a ton of other additions to the catalog, including a session with some people new on the Madison scene. Indra and Aaron from Peaking lights. And they are burnin' up this town. Check out the new Second Family Band cassete.. which features Indra and Aaron as well as the dudes from Relentless Corpse all colliding in the Peaking Lights' barn. What is it with Wisconsin and barn jams!? Who cares. It's always a cranium cracking, mind melting experience. Feel that warm stuff oozing down your neck? That's your brain.

Another sesh that should not be missed is another total free-for-all with The Second Family Band, Peaking Lights, Jooklo Duo, Jason Soliday (runs the Enemy space) and Sam Henry (Plastic Boner Band). Three tracks of spontaeneous conjunction on a rare cd-r release. Limited to 45 copies these are almost gone! (SOLD OUT)

Completely gone, are the db Pedersen 'Infernal Noise' cassettes. Don't let the title fool you, this is anything but noise. Definitely a bit further off the path of song that db sometimes travels with his studio projects though. This is a compilation of three seperat live shows. A true entertainer; hearing db perform in front of an audience you come to understand his true gift for improv and how it can play off of and enhance his songs. We won't tease you any more because, as I said, they're gone! What can we say? When people see his live performances, they buy product! You might still snag a copy through AltVinyl, Eclipse Records or Tomentosa though! (SOLD OUT)

Also new to the catalog, another weirdo group hug from The Second Family Band. This time Math Balance Volumes and Endless lay down the slanky off center grooves. This sounds like the master tapes of some wannabe-Spaghetti-Western-soundtrack-turned-psychedelic-Peter Fonda-B-movie-soundtrack, which were left out in the rain overnight. green cassette , stickered envelope. (5.00)

And Last- but in no way least- a creepy 90 minute giant of a cassette by Xiphiidae. This is one, long collage of field recordings taken from Payne's Prairie somewhere in Florida. We have been diggin on all of Jefrey Astin's projects icluding Xiphiida for some time and it is with great joy that we offer this as our first solo release by a Wisconsin outsider. green tapes, hand decorated plastic case. (5.00)

TREE TAPES NEWS:

Tree Tapes is rollin em up and handin' em out! The new THC series hits with two 90 minute slow burners. (T-H-C that's 'Too Heavy Cassettes', a mono cassette series on the Tree Tapes label). First, another solo outing by the Woodman called Driftin' and then the droning duo match one for the second cassette in the series; the  'Dreams Are Our Arms' cassette. (5.00 each)
